What is Gallbladder?

This pear-shaped organ is located behind the liver. It stores bile. Bile is an acidic liquid that is made by the liver. It contains a lot of fat-digesting ingredients and the liver excrete bile in the small intestine. 

How are gallstones formed?

The acidic components of bile usually keep both cholesterol and calcium in solution. When cholesterol rises or its dissolving components decrease, some of these particles combine to form stones.

Most gallstones are made up of cholesterol. Other stones can be like sand particles and even egg-shaped. These stones are either inside the leaf itself or in the ducts that connect the leaf and the liver to the small intestine.

 Gallstones are usually three times more common in women between the ages of 20 and 60 than in men, but after 60 years, the number of women with gallstones and men with gallstones is equal. 

The most common cause of gallstones in women

Scientists believe that young women have more stones than men because the female hormone estrogen causes them to accumulate more cholesterol in their bile.

 Other factors include family planning, estrogen therapy, weight gain, excess fat, and Low fiber foods are included in the diet.

Dietary measures

People who eat more fat and less fiber are more likely to get gallstones. The disease is relatively rare in Asians. The easiest way to reduce fat is to eat less meat and the easiest way to increase fiber is to eat more grains, vegetables, and fruits.

Weight loss

Excess weight is the main cause of gallstones. Eating a balanced diet will help you lose weight. Fruits like grapefruit, strawberries, and vegetables like spinach, lentils, popcorn, tomatoes, and oats are good. 

Control your cholesterol

Cholesterol should be controlled. Excessive cholesterol can lead to high blood pressure and heart disease. It is also not appropriate to prolong the interval between meals.

some other important tips

  • It is important to have breakfast in the morning after the last meal of the day, ie dinner.  Giving more time between meals increases the amount of cholesterol in the blood by 12 times.

  • It is good to eat high fiber foods at regular intervals

  • Eating fruit between two meals is more beneficial

  • Some fish contain omega-3 fatty acids that keep fats low.


The traditional operation to remove stones was once painful but now the stones are removed using modern and simple methods. However, if we keep our eating habits balanced, the disease can be prevented from getting complicated.
